Rain Barrels auctioned at Rib Fest

Arts LIFT students will be auctioning their Rain barrels at the City of Akron’s Lock 3 Rib Fest on July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. The barrels will also be available for purchase from Keep Akron Beautiful at http://www.keepakronbeautiful.org/ .

For the high school students, creating the artistic rain barrels is just one part of the Arts LIFT experience this summer. The program will begin with trips to local water treatment facilities and lectures about rainwater collection and conservation by Pat Gsellman of Akron Public Utilities Bureau and Paula Davis, CEO of Keep Akron Beautiful. The students will also learn about other ways they can assist the City of Akron’s Greenprint for Akron initiatives aimed at fostering a sustainable, eco-friendly community through education and leadership.

This is the seventh year that Arts LIFT, conceived and directed by Elisa Gargarella, an art education professor at The University of Akron, is bringing together professional artists, high school and UA art students, and local institutions to support conservation and ecological efforts in the community.

The program is supported by the Lola K. Isroff Arts Assistance Endowed Fund at UA.
