Laila Voss graduated from Ohio University and received her MFA from Kent State University. As Assistant Lecturer, Voss has taught several levels of drawing, 2-D & 3-D Design, Intermediate & Advanced Studio in Installation and is currently teaching Foundation Life Drawing.
Through accumulation and juxtaposition Voss explores urban as well as psychological landscapes. She has exhibited installations, sculptures, and drawings in the United Sates and abroad. Her multi-media installations have been included in such nationally recognized exhibitions as Urban Evidence: Contemporary Artists Reveal Cleveland or Great Lake Erie, Imagining an Inland Sea. She has also been the recipient of numerous commissions, grants and residencies, including several grants from the Ohio Arts Council and Myers School of Art. Two examples of artist-in-residence awards are FCCA Prague, the Czech Republic and Zygote Press. Her work is part of Outdoor Sculpture in the Heights, as well as another extended outdoor exhibition in Massillon. In addition, Voss has been working on a public park garden project with the residents of the Hyacinth neighborhood in Slavic Village, Cleveland to create sculptural gardens and benches. Besides exhibiting work, Laila Voss actively participates in the visual culture of the region by lecturing and participating in various panels and symposiums. Additionally, she has been a SPACES board member since1999. Voss has also acted in an advisory capacity to other organizations such as Zygote Press and the Sculpture Center.
