Dr. Gargarella graduated with a PhD in Secondary Education from the University of Akron in 2007. She holds a master’s degree in teaching from Chatham College and a bachelor’s degree in communications and studio art from Denison University. Dr. Gargarella’s research centers on community-based art education and eco-based art education. She is the director of several outreach arts-based programs including the smART program for elementary aged students, the Art & Soul program for at-risk girls, the Akron Youth Community Arts program for at-risk teens, and the award winning Arts LIFT artist in residency program for urban youth.
