BFA from RIT
Alex Lippisch has been a commercial photographer since the early 1970s. He has become a truly versatile photographer with experience in many facets of this field.
As a High School student in Wooster, Ohio he was hired by the local newspaper to shoot high school football and basketball games. Next he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology as a photography major, where he became very interested in sculpture and conceptual art.
After graduating from RIT in 1979 with a BFA degree, he spent a short period in Cleveland, OH as a photographer/producer of corporate level multi-projector slide presentations. Then he moved to New York City and assisted some of the best studio photographers of the 1980s. This experience really honed his skills and exposed him to the world of advertising, which he thoroughly enjoys. During this period he also participated in the New York downtown art scene and played synthesizer with an improvisational fusion band.
In 1989 he accepted the position of staff photographer at the Boston based, former ad agency McDougall Associates. Eventually resettling back to Ohio, this led to his current status as a self-employed commercial photographer. Alex is also a teacher of advanced digital imaging at the University of Akron.
His clients have included: Time-Life Books, Brigham's, Gorton's seafood, Rubbermaid, Sylvania, GE, Marriott Hotels, Digital Equipment Corp., Bostik, Eastern Bank, and Prudential-Bache. He has worked with many talented art directors, on numerous projects which became Hatch award winners.
With inspiration coming from sources such as the Bauhaus and Russian Constructivism, he thoroughly enjoys the challenge of creating dynamic visual media. Alex takes pride in being a precise and organized person, who pays attention to the small details.
