Pieces of My Mind: Recent Paintings by Patricia Zinsmeister Parker

Patricia Zinsmeister Parker has been at the forefront of the art world in Northeast Ohio for the past three decades. Her innovative approach to painting, largely classified as abstract figuration, will be on exhibition at the Emily Davis Gallery, Myers School of Art, (The University of Akron) in Folk Hall from October 10-28, 2005.

This solo exhibition entitled: "Pieces of My Mind: Recent Paintings by Patricia Zinsmeister Parker" encompasses mixed media painting, assemblage, color prints, and works on paper mounted in Plexiglas. For the opening on Oct. 10, Parker will give a free public gallery talk about her work beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a reception.

Parker creates highly evocative and poetic images by combining simple, quirky forms with gestural brushwork. Over the last fifteen years her method of construction in her paintings has evolved from manipulating paint on the surface of the canvas to experimentation by adding elements in relief. The addition of these architectural elements results in dynamic compositions that invade the space between the viewer and the traditional picture plane.

Parker was an adjunct professor of painting for many years at the Myers School of Art and has been an active arts supporter and participant in the greater Ohio art scene.
