Mass Production: Artists’ Multiples and the Marketplace

Exhibition to Examine Artworld Ambiguities

Bringing together a diversity of art objects collectively known as multiples, the Emily Davis Gallery at The University of Akron examines the ideological tensions between artists and the art world in a groundbreaking exhibition: Mass Production: Artists’ Multiples and the Marketplace. This uniquely focused exhibition, which opens Oct. 30 – Dec. 1, surveys the remarkable genre of the artist’s multiple (defined as a three-dimensional artwork produced in quantity) – from 1935 to the present – and examines the ambiguous relationship between these objects and the world of commerce.
