From September 15 to November 4, 2006, guest curator and artist Casey Vogt brought together the work of 20 emerging, "restless" artists for Restless in Akron at Summit Artspace Gallery, a space devoted to displaying works by Greater Summit County Artists. The 44 works included paintings, photographs and sculpture- – raw, edgy, brash and reflective, each work combined to show the range of creative work going on in Akron and beyond. While northeast Ohio's museums continue to play and important part in shaping the region's cultural identity, they mean little unless they are surrounded and supported by people creating art. The restlessness referenced in the show's title seemed to express the artists' eagerness to showcase the vital creative community in Akron, and to build a bridge between those who make art and those who view and enjoy it. As part of the show, artist and alum Andrew McAllister contributed a photographic gallery of all the artists represented in Restless. The participants varied in age, proving that youth- – at least as far as the art world is concerned- – is subjective.
