It started with a very inspiring article in one of the popular graphic design magazines. The article was documenting an event that had just occurred a few months prior. It talked about an event that advertising agencies organized to help out non-profit organizations. This event seemed so inspiring to everyone involved, I just had to get involved myself. And involved is just we what did. But first we must give credit to the founders of this wonderful concept. Thank you Riggs design firm, for your inspiration.

The history of this event started several years ago and was developed by a firm in Columbia, South Carolina called Riggs. They started a program called CreateAThon®. It is a one day and night event where the entire firm works on non-profit jobs for the community. Since it had such a big impact, they invited other ad agencies to join them. This past year, 25 agencies from across North America joined in their efforts. More than 180 non-profit organizations were helped with approximately 400 projects. http://www.createathon.com

Since neither of us work for an ad agency, we decided to take this wonderful idea and bring a group of designers from many different agencies together in a one day ALL NIGHT event similar to that of CreateAThon®. Most of the volunteer designers were alumni of the design studio design x nine, operated by the Graphic Design Department of Myers School of Art. Thanks to Myers School of Art for allowing us to use their facilities and a Folk grant that partially funded this event.

The goal of Design for 24 was to produce design work for non-profits whose limited budgets often prohibit hiring professional firms to assist them in creating logos, informational brochures, websites, identity systems, and so worth.

It's amazing what happens when you get a bunch of people together in a room who share one commonality. PASSION. Passion about what we do. Passion to help others. Passion about life.
